Buying a car is a process that includes a wide variety of emotions. There is the excitement that is involved in making such a large process. There is the joy in getting to drive something that is brand new. There is also the fear about the amount of money that a person will have to invest to get a new car. For many people the price of a new car is more than they will spend on any purchase in their life except for maybe a home. It also oftentimes represents a commitment to pay a monthly note for the next few years. For all of these reasons, buying a new car is not something that should be done without thinking everything through. For a person in the military, the process of buying a car has even more things that need to be considered. People in the military are not always well paid. An expensive car could be more of a burden than they can afford. There is also the possibility of deployment for an extended period of time. A new car is not something that a person who is deployed in a foreign country will be able to use but it is still something they will have to continue to pay for. Because they are appreciated for the job they do for a country, people in the military are often able to receive special benefits and this includes when they are buying a new car. Many car dealerships and manufacturers offer additional rebates for people who are in the military. This can help make cars more affordable. There is also special financing that can be arranged through a dealership or through some other financial institution that will provide a serviceperson with more favorable terms for a loan. This also can help reduce the burden. People who are deployed in the military get special protection against creditors. It is not as easy for credit companies to charge penalties to someone who is deployed overseas. The abilities for these companies to repossess an automobile are also more stringent. Anyone in the military who uses credit needs to know what their rights are if they are deployed. It is definitely something to consider if they are buying a new car. While a person in the military faces additional challenges when buying a car, that does not mean they should not consider it. They deserve the joy and excitement that comes with the ownership of a new car as much if not more than anyone else.
