If you are like most young parents, you may feel challenged by the idea of outfitting your children’s room. Additionally, whether you are in a house or an apartment, you are often faced with the additional challenge of trying to give your kids nice furnishings and enough room to play in a space that is very small. Add to that the fact that children’s furniture (along with everything else these days) is usually quite expensive, and it’s easy to see why setting up the kids’ room can often be a source of stress for young families. However, with just a little creativity and some common sense you can outfit your child’s room inexpensively, safely, and in a way that will keep things organized. Kids love to play, and of course, that’s their job, so they need lots of interesting, entertaining, educational toys. They also need a good way of keeping them organized and out from under-foot when they aren’t in use. The classic toy box is often an affordable option for toy storage, but it does have a few drawbacks. It’s hard to find things in a toy box. They tend to get all jumbled up and little things drift to the bottom, so your child may end up throwing everything on the floor every day just to find a couple of toy cars or a ball. Additionally, toy boxes can be a safety hazard. Children can fall in and get stuck and sometimes even suffocate. If you do decide to buy or build a toy box, be sure that it’s not one that is big enough for your child to fit into, and be sure that the lid is light and easy to push up (no large, latching plastic totes). Of course, check on your child frequently while s/he is at play. You may find it easier and safer to create a system of shoe-box sized clear plastic totes arranged on low shelves. With this system, your child can easily see what’s in each box and simply choose that box without having to rummage through everything to find one favorite toy. Additionally, you can keep toys “new” by storing some boxes away and rotating toy selections from time to time. This will help your child get the most play and enjoyment out of his or her toys. This system also has the advantage of being affordable, expandable, and educational. Clear plastic shoe boxes only cost about $6 for a set of 3. You can add to them as you need to, and your child can get experience sorting things by shape, size, color and type every time the two of you tidy up his or her room! As with the toy box idea, be sure to keep safety in mind when you are setting up your shoe box system. If you are going to arrange the boxes on shelves, be sure the shelves are firmly secured to the wall. Children love to climb to reach things, and you do not want to risk having the shelves topple over on your child. The same is true of other items in your child’s room. Be sure that dressers and bureaus are firmly secured to the wall so that, in the probable event your child decides to pull the drawers halfway out and climb to the top, the whole thing won’t come crashing down. So don’t feel overwhelmed by the idea of creating an enjoyable, affordable, organized, and safe play space for your child. With a little creativity and common sense, you’re sure to create a safe and cozy room your child will love to spend time in. Nubie offer Play Tables and Modern nursery uk
