Capture the GAA Spirit

Business

There is no better way to show your true colours than by wearing your county’s jersey. We all dream of the past, a time when our team lifted Sam or the Liam McCarthy Cup over their heads in Croke Park. So why not partially relive the moment with a piece of history – a retro GAA jersey.

Heroes

GAA allows the local teacher or the shop keeper to become a god for an afternoon. Watching your neighbour or local parish player skilfully float across the 40 yard line and then send the ball over the bar in front of 80,000 other people is an exhilarating experience we all get to experience every summer, GAA allows men to become giants on the pitch.

We all have our childhood memories of watching RTE on a Sunday or sitting in the Hogan Stand in Croke Park, watching what seemed like larger than life heroes perform near super-human acts. We sat there in exhilaration with our counties colours around our shoulders part of something out of the ordinary.

In Our Blood

Anyone who ever has kicked a ball in anger will tell you they’ve dreamed of being on that pitch. And anyone who’s ever dreamed of being on the pitch has been thinking about wearing a GAA jersey and kicking the winning point in the last minute on the final evening of the championship in September.

Whether it’s some sort of formative experience or just a matter of style, there is something simple and beautiful about a retro GAA jersey, especially if you can get it cheaper with a voucher from 5hop5.ie.

Simple Pleasures

Now that summer’s here again, we’re all revved up for the season ahead. Long evenings to spending time kicking a ball up and down the local pitch, or hard training sessions doing the just the same.

Emulating the actions of others in the hopes and dreams and actions of your own can be a great and exciting thing to do. Think of all the hours you put in training to win that county championship or the time spent standing in the weather coaching or being a spectator to the local goings on.

Parish to County

There’s something in the Irish gene that wants to be part of the team, part of where you were bred and there is nothing better to show it than the GAA pitch, whether on it or off it.

Watching your children growing from nippers who are smaller than a hurl to the centre-mid of the county team takes a lot of dedication on both your parts. There is nothing mere inert to Irish folk than the GAA and their parish team – GAA is in the blood of most Irish families. It’s the focal point of households and the central hub of life for many, whether out on a Saturday with friends or having a conversation at the dinner table - as the saying goes: “The men of Ireland were hurling when the gods of Greece were young."

Winter GAA

Of course not all GAA life is about football or hurling when the days are long and bright. There’s the National League to grind through each winter – the first taste of glory on the GAA calendar and also the first chance to inflict first hurts.

Retro GAA offer classically designed hoodies for the avid supporter and pyjamas for the child who wears his hear on his sleeve even when asleep. Use a 5hop5.ie voucher to get the best value.

There’s nothing that shows dedication to the cause than standing at a game in the middle of February – nothing. GAA fans and players are famous for their dedication – motivated by winning alone. To some it’s more than a religion as one commentator professed during a match between Sligo and Dublin:

"I saw a few Sligo people at Mass in Gardiner Street this morning and
the omens seem to be good for them, the priest was wearing the same
colours as the Sligo jersey! 40 yards out on the Hogan stand side of the
field Ciaran Whelan goes on a rampage, it's a goal. So much for religion!"

There is nothing like GAA to inspire, to motivate and to celebrate and for many this pride is instilled. A retro GAA jersey brings the colours to the fore, somewhat like but more attractive ad less painful than Meath, who bring the colours black and blue to the fore.
