Laminate tile flooring is a great option for many homeowners since it is durable, simple to install and easy on your budget. Laminate tile flooring looks similar to hard wood, ceramic tile or authentic stone without the complicated maintenance, coldness, echoing and expense of some of these other materials. There are many guides on the internet to help you decide on the right laminate tile flooring covering everything from choosing the right design, learning to install it yourself, and properly maintaining your new flooring. This guide is a short synopsis of the various aspects of laminate tile flooring. It is important to know what questions to ask when you are considering purchasing laminate tile flooring. A good place to start is to understand the different types of laminate flooring. So what types are there? There are basically four different systems of laminate flooring: glueless laminate tiles, glued-together tiles, peel and stick tiles and laminate tiles with attached underlay. The most popular and easy to install are the glueless laminate tiles. Look for brands which have an interlocking system that stays compressed together by pressure and angle. These will keep your tiles from sliding around, coming apart at the seams, or allowing any dirt or moisture in the cracks. The next question to ask is: how much foot traffic will be using your laminate tile flooring? If you live in a small household, you may be able to get away with the lower cost thin veneer on your flooring. However, if you experience a lot of heavy traffic from visitors, kids or pets, a thin veneer will wear through easily and the design underneath will be scratched, making your laminate tile flooring look worn quickly. So choose thicker veneer for high traffic areas. What about moisture? Can laminate tile flooring be installed in a bathroom or other wet area? The simple answer is yes, by taking some reasonable precautions. Since laminate is synthetic, it resists water better than real wood, but be sure to choose special laminate tile flooring made especially for moist areas which has a moisture-resistant manufacturing process including a green core to resist climate variations. If you are installing your laminate tile flooring in a high moisture area such as a bathroom with shower, you may want to cover it after installation with a thick moisture-proof sealant to protect your investment further. Who should install your laminate flooring? Though laminate tile flooring is relatively easy to install yourself, you need to think about your experience and desire. A professional can install your flooring much faster and knows all the tips and tricks to getting it done perfectly, so it might be worth paying someone else to do it. The last question to ask yourself is: How much is this going to cost me? Measure your room carefully, then figure out how many boxes of laminate tiles you need. Figure out the cost of the padding and a moisture barrier sheet, the cost of pulling out the old flooring material and the price of any tools that you need to pick up. By doing a little careful planning and asking the right questions, you will be more satisfied with your laminate tile flooring purchase and will enjoy your new floors for years to come.
