" You gather resources, build bases, making armies, and fight with them. The graphics are better than the original, and a couple of units are different, but really thats all. And thats fine, because Starcraft was a great game with an engaging story and interesting three factions were also well balanced. 
Perhaps the greatest thing veteran players will notice that in the single player campaign the game focuses almost exclusively on faction of human(alien Protoss have a short series of side quests, while insects like the Zerg are entirely enemies). Like the original, Starcraft 2 will challenge you to try and field goals, you will experience and create your army accordingly. A series of updates(for units, buildings, and the mercenary forces that can be purchased) provide some variations, and the game itself you throw a few surprises.
