If you are looking for the perfect place to inspire a budding group of young artists, the country village of Giverny is the perfect place to begin a school trip to Paris. This scenic destination is located just two hours from France's capital city and served as the inspiration for many of the works painted by Claude Monet. The artist first came to Giverny in 1883 and Monet lived in the village for 43 years. In fact, much of the picturesque scenery here features prominently in his most famous works - you'll be able to see the famous bridge and lily pond from his last series, The Water Lilies, as you tour through his former home and gardens. His house has been lovingly restored by the Claude Monet Foundation and the property is open to the public. You will probably want to leave yourself around two hours to explore the area and learn more about the life of the artist here before you return to the city. In Paris, you'll find several of Monet's works - as well as paintings by several other influential Impressionist and post-Impressionist artists - in the marvellous Musee d'Orsay, a stunning, light-filled former train station that is now one of the city's finest art galleries and museums. Another museum well worth exploring is the famous Louvre, which is home to Leonardo da Vinci's greatest masterpiece - the Mona Lisa. You'll also find works by Rembrandt and many other masters in the former palace - you'll want to give your group plenty of time to explore the facility to see as many of the great works as possible. France's national museum of modern art can be found in the unique Georges Pompidou Centre, which is located in one of the oldest areas of the city, while the world's largest single collection of works by Pablo Picasso can be found in the Marais district at the Musee Picasso. The Musee Rodin is also dedicated to a single artist's work - in fact, you'll be able to see some 500 sculptures crafted by the artist in the facility and surrounding gardens, as well as thousands of drawings and photographs. Of course, there is much more to explore in Paris than art museums alone - your pupils may wish to indulge in a bit of window-shopping on the Champs d'Elysees, marvel at the gigantic Arc de Triomphe, exercise their legs with a climb up the Eiffel Tower, visit one of the world's most spectacular cathedrals at Notre Dame or sample some of the fine Parisian cuisine. You may even wish to schedule a trip to Disneyland Paris to finish off your exciting school trip - it's sure to be an experience your pupils will remember for years to come.
