Most of the western world has opened up to Indian style furniture because of its huge variety and the excellent craftsmanship that goes into the making of this furniture. Separate wooden cases for storing books have also become popular outside India. This wooden furniture is given a distinct finish by using different types of finishing agents. Some of the commonly used finishing agents include natural finish, distressed color finish and a stain finish. Because of the relatively low cost of Indian design furniture which includes intricate design and impressive quality, people living in the west can search on the net and easily select the most appropriate furniture that suits their needs. Most Indian wooden furniture is made out of either hardwood such as teak and oak, and softwoods, which includes mahogany, maple and cherry. Both types of wood certainly have their own merits and demerits, and the customer has to choose the wood based o their own preferences and requirements. Some of the features that need to be looked in the wood include the uniformity of grains in the wood, stability, strength, shock resistance, smooth or fine finishes, well-designed interiors, adequate polishing and skilled painting. One has to consider most of these characteristics before selecting the type of wood. One has to always have an eye on the total quality of the wood. Some cheap quality wood may not last even a short while. Top quality wood, which is costly initially, has a greater life span and can easily survive 5 to 8 years.
