Scuba diving can be a great hobby but it can also be dangerous if you are not taught properly. When learning to scuba dive, do not go for the cheapest possible means. Make sure that you are being given instruction by someone who is not only qualified, but is also an experienced and certified instructor that is recognized by an organization such as the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. This type of teacher can get you certified in the correct way. There are places around the world that are geared towards tourism that often have quick lessons and off you go underwater. These can be dangerous. If you want to go scuba diving on your vacation, then take the time to learn first before you go. Get the proper instruction from qualified teachers. It doesn't take a lot of time to become certified. The first step is to learn all of the written material in the scuba manual. This can take a week or two, depending upon how much time each day you devote to your studies. After this, you devote two full weekends to learning scuba diving with equipment - two days in a swimming pool for one weekend, followed by the following weekend in open water for two days. If you pay attention from the beginning, and learn all of the safety precautions, you will be able to enjoy underwater scuba diving safely. Prices for these types of lessons can vary depending upon what is included with the lessons. It is best to inquire about diving lessons from a local source of scuba diving equipment. If you do not live near an ocean, there is often scuba diving available near large lakes and other bodies of water. Once you become certified you will want to gain experience as a diver before you tackle anything tricky such as cave diving. This type of diving is a specialty area and takes additional skill and knowledge along with the experience of someone who has been scuba diving for some time. The two leading causes of death and injury while scuba diving are ignorance and carelessness. Most of this is due to a crash course in scuba diving while people are on vacation. This person is not given extensive training and if they get into trouble underwater, it can often be fatal. However, due to good education by qualified instructors, the number of deaths from scuba diving continues to drop each year -and this is while the number of scuba divers increases around the world each year.
