With the assistance of a trained professional, practically anyone can learn how to scuba dive. A trained professional is defined as someone with the required scuba diving certification. In fact, diving shops and charter boats will not take an individual scuba diving if they do not have the appropriate qualifications. Also, as a general rule, before an individual can began diving training program, they will have to meet a few established health requirements, which means certifying agencies will requests medical approval from a medical professional or a doctor before accepting someone into the program. Typically, most people can pass this approval process with exception of those who have ear or different types of heart problems. An individual will not have to be very athletic but they will have to reasonably fit. This is because diving is not considered an extremely strenuous activity but it does require a certain level of physical fitness. For example, a diver will have to have the ability to lift him or herself up out of the water while climbing into a boat. This sport does not require a person to be an excellent swimmer. However, everyone will have to be very familiar and comfortable with being in the water. Therefore when entering a scuba diving program, these agencies will administer a simple swimming test, which includes swimming two hundred yards. Every student will need to know how to surface float for approximately ten minutes. Floating on the back or treading water can accomplish this activity. Men, women and children over the age of ten can learn how to scuba dive. However, the biggest problem or concerns for the majority of people who want to learn the sport is learning how hold to their breath under water for extended periods of time. This is, however, a milestone that can be surpassed by learning how to snorkel first. Snorkeling teaches students how to keep their face in the water while breathing at the surface. This method eases them into breathing underwater using a scuba regulator. There are a variety of different types of scuba diving courses that are available. Some of the courses are full certification training courses and other courses are short courses that can be completed while on vacation. The short courses are more commonly called resort courses. These courses provide basic skills in a pool setting or environment. The cost of the course can vary depending on the training center or the instructor who offers the training.
