Expecting a baby? Modern nursery furniture is a fantastic way to welcome your new little one in style. Gone are the days when expectant parents were limited to nurseries furnished only in cotton candy-pink and pastel blue. Modern moms and dads often choose to eschew these traditional hues in favor of more stylish (and gender-neutral) aesthetics. Modern nursery furniture comes in a dizzying assortment of colors, materials, and styles. Wood is a perennially tasteful choice. Dark finishes such as mahogany or ebony look fantastic when set against light-colored walls, and any scratches or other small damaged areas can be easily camouflaged with a cover-up pen. Lighter finishes such as birch or maple are also beautiful. A stylish nursery may contain furniture in a mix of finishes, too; this technique adds visual interest to the space, but the room remains unified because of the consistency in material used (in this case, wood). Molded plastics are another exciting trend in modern nursery furniture. Parents who enjoy the Swedish modern decorating style often choose this route, with stunning results. Plastic can be easily bent or molded into limitless shapes, and has the added benefit of being very easy to clean. All sorts of spills wipe up with a damp cloth. Most plastics are also highly resistant to stains. Choosing modern nursery furniture should go hand-in-hand with a complimentary color scheme. Paint is inexpensive and is easily the most affordable way to completely redo the look of the whole nursery. For an even more dramatic change, many parents also repaint some or all of their baby furniture. This is a great choice for parents who have already had at least one child and are reticent to spend thousands of dollars on entirely new nursery furniture. Using washable wall paint ensures easy cleanup of any future messes (or misguided art attempts by young Picassos!), and spray paint can be quickly applied to furniture items. In only one or two days, the entire nursery looks brand new. Modern nursery furniture is available from many fine retailers throughout the world. Thanks to the Internet, expectant parents can browse thousands of styles and colors without ever leaving home. Many furniture retailers also accept orders online and are happy to ship. However, it's always prudent to see prospective purchases in person whenever possible; this helps provide proof that the item in question will be a welcome addition to the nursery.
