If we look at 18th century India, when every wonders used to be considered as almighty God’s wish; hardly anyone was concerned about the rationale of the things happening around. After a long pause the concept of biology arose in 19th century. Research in biology has evolved far beyond imagination whether it’s for macro or any nanotechnology in biological sciences. This has secured lives of many from dreaded diseases, be it from treatment of symptomatic diseased condition to development of vaccines for lifetime immunity. Time has changed and so perspective of people to look at the world around, be it for any climatic change or arrival of some superbugs. People have become more vigilant and now they understand the cause behind the things happening around. This led to more awareness for health consciousness amongst people. Who has made all these happen? Who is working day and night to find solutions to questions raised by mother nature..? These are the people commonly recognised as “scientists” or can also be recognised amongst least paid people. Important research projects are well funded by various organisations, what about good salary for all those spending their day and night in finding solutions to the health problems faced by people every day? Money also does matters to people involved in scientific research, then why it is not considered for their salary structure or this can be considered as an insignificant job? India is really lacking in bringing innovations in biotech sector. Moreover, most of the Indian pharma survives on generics only. Where are we lacking? We really lack in bringing innovations, new molecules to the market. All good experienced scientists instead of implementing their research ideas leave the field and move to management part of it. Ultimately, what remains is the inexperienced bunch of people those who need lots of training. By the time, they finishes with their training they have already developed a mindset to change the job profile ..............Most ignored salary structure is the culprit behind all these. Everyone works passionately but at the end, money can give satisfaction. This is the reason why a person with enough calibre also leaves the work due to lack of encouragement financially. If this remains the status of contemporary biological research, i fear if youngsters will make up their mind not to pursue their carrier in biological research oriented work. This also could be a reason why Indian pharma cannot come out with a good new molecule concept easily.
