Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) is sometimes installed for many reasons, but it is mostly used as an anti-theft device. Theft has become an increasing problem in places like shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants, and bars and it is the responsibility of the owners to protect their interest as well as customers. CCTV also plays an important role in automated telling machines which are prone to incidents of theft. By installing CCTV people can protect not only themselves but also threats from the outside world and threats on their investment. CCTV also plays a role in accessing staff and employees, particularly in the hotel and bar industry, for any potential wrongdoing. Installing a visible closed circuit security system can help to reduce any temptation from employees when they aware that they are being monitored by a third eye. Non-visible closed circuit security can be used in public movement area like banks, hotels, bars etc, where the intruder may think they are safe from being monitored. In places where money is the main focal point infrared cameras are sometimes called upon since they can be extremely useful when lighting is poor. One important thing about installing infrared cameras are their comparatively short span of life since the infrared beam that is being used by the camera will last only for a few years, and this is not the best solution in some cases die to the amount of investment involved. It is better to keep the area with good lighting conditions to effectively use CCTV and it also creates a safer place since it is covered by light. Even though color cameras are preferred to black and white cameras, black and white cameras are still favored in some surveillance systems due to their adaptability to low lighting conditions. In these places color cameras do not function as well as black and white since they look for contrast and thereby reducing the picture quality. Cameras are always improving though, and high definition cameras are now becoming the norm. Another important aspect while installing CCTV is the memory size. Commercial establishments and public utility services can have cameras with 10GB of memory but small residential apartments or small business concerns can buy the minimum required capacity to suit their requirement. One should also take care while purchasing CCTV as to whether it is covered under warranty or guarantee. If it is not covered then it may be prone to malfunction and hence the whole purpose of installing CCTV is lost.
