For a person in the military or who has just retired from military service who wants to buy a used truck or a used car, there are some options they could try. Usually the government announces some discounts on the products purchased by military personnel, thus rewarding them for their service to their country. The same discounts are applicable for used cars and trucks. The military person or the veteran can search on the internet for those dealers who provide discounts on used cars to military men. Not all dealers will provide a discount on used cars for military men. But, there will certainly be some dealers in the neighborhood who provide discounts. One of the best places to search is on online directories that list used car dealers in the local region and the surrounding region. After confirming that the dealer provides a discount on the used cars to military personnel, the military person can go to that particular dealer and have a look at the type of used cars on which the dealer provides discounts. When inspecting the car, the first thing the military person should verify is the number of miles it has run. If the car had run more than 80000 miles, then it is not the right choice to buy. The most ideal used car should have run between 30000 miles and 40000 miles. One should take a test drive of the used car and see the performance of the car. The military person should take the car out both the local roads and the highways - there are certain problems that will only come out when the car is made to run at greater speeds but when running on a local road the car doesn’t cross a particular speed and some problems may lie hidden. Once the person is satisfied having taken a test drive they can start negotiations with the dealer. Though the dealer might have already given some discount for military personnel, the military person can still ask for some more discounts, by discussing with the dealer some of the minor problems that are evident from the test drive. Without knowing the proper functioning of the car, one cannot highlight these problems to the dealer. The military personnel can also take out a yearly maintenance contract from the dealer and also ask for some discount to be given on this maintenance service.
