In the early months of 2011, the Bakugan series was at the end of its third season, Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders. There were already rumors about a fourth season even in the past year but it was all just rumor for a while... until February came. The last of the Gundalian Invaders wave of Bakugan were out, and Spinmaster began to unravel the new season of the series, Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge. For its animated series on television, there's a new plot, of course. The story is set one year after the events of the third season. Drago is struggling with the powers that Code Eve bestowed into him during the battle in Neathia against the Gundalians. He and Dan are also being plagued by visions and nightmares that provoke them into using more of the power for the enemy's own gain. And as if that is not enough, there are also brawlers working for this hidden enemy that keep on setting up the brawlers! Now it's also a given that there would be something new to look forward to in the fourth season. There were the Bakugan Traps and Special Attack during the second season, the Battle Gears and Super Assault in the third, and finally the BakuNano, Mechtogan and Mechtogan Titan in the fourth season. The Mechtogan is the highlight of the season. It is obviously why the series is named “Mechtanium Surge.” The Mechtogan are cyber beings that are spawned by Drago's new powers as he gives out more and more during his battles. The Mechtogan Titan is a bigger version of the Mechtogan. In real time, they show more details then the Mechtogan. They are both activated by what we call the Mechtogan Activator Card. The BakuNano is a revised version of the Bakugan Battle Gears. It is a kind of weaponry that the Bakugan and Mechtogan can use to add to their power and attacks. It also follows the same Attribute set as the Battle Gears, which are Gold, Silver, and Copper. The Mechtogan and Mechtogan Titan follow the normal Attribute set of Pyrus, Aquos, Haos, Darkus, Subterra, and Ventus. The Mechtogan and Mechtogan Titan may be beings like the Bakugan, but when in play in real time they are actually treated as support pieces. This means that they follow the same rules as the Bakugan Trap, Special Attack, Super Assault, Battle Gears, and Mobile Assault. The rule regarding the support pieces has also been changed. While in the past we could use three support pieces in a game, now, in the fourth series, we are only allowed two in a brawl. The BakuNano, on the other hand, follows another gameplay rule. A brawler can use three of them when battling. It is also not restricted to the rule of the support pieces where we can only have two. In a battle, we can have three Bakugan, two support pieces, and three BakuNano! The fourth season certainly keeps on surprising us as the animated series and the waves of Bakugan toys are shown successively. Unlike in the past seasons, Spinmaster is not giving out details about the flow of the story or any spoilers at all! This makes it interesting or us because the mystery piques our curiosity and we can't wait till we get to know everything there is about Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge!
