Research your Sales Presentations for Maximum Effect

Preparing for a sales presentation can be tedious, time consuming and stressful. Based on research, the standard generic speeches are no longer effective or sufficient for the corporations’ needs today. Traditionally, PowerPoint slide presentations with gimmicks were what the corporate customer wanted. However, the customer’s focus is now on the bottom line and reducing costs or spending. Specifically, the larger corporations and firms are designing their strategies to better suit and meet their customer’s needs. Therefore, prior to making the next presentation good research can assist with delivering an effective presentation. A great presentation will not only provide your customer with an understanding of an intangible concept but it will give the customer a viable plan to implement immediately when the presentation is over. Therefore one of the first steps in developing the sales presentation is to allow multiple hours or days to complete customer research. Productive research digs deep, explores and defines the customer’s needs as well as the specific details of their products, services and the way that they do their business. This can be accomplished by targeting the sales pitch to addressing an issue that the customer is tasked with solving. Although customers can be in the same type of industry the problems or issues that exist are not always the same. Each organization can have areas of responsibility that are unique to their clients concerns. Excellent research skills or strategy will flush out these issues along with formulating possible solutions to the problems. After gathering and compiling the research, the actual physical and verbal presentation can be prepared in a specific format or style. Storytelling in a narrative format is typically more compelling than a slideshow that is a data-driven. Beginning the presentation with a very interesting anecdote along with a well-prepared successive course of events or clear strategy will capture the audience’s attention and keep them engaged throughout the delivery. Also, with any sales pitch or presentation, the energy that the individual has will also assist in the delivery of an exceptional presentation. Being persuasive and confident could position the solution that is being presented as the one that the customer is most receptive to accepting as their company’s final choice. Therefore, all of the elements of an excellent presentation must include comprehensive research, a creative anecdote that captures the audience’s attention along with energy that engages and provokes the audience or customer to act on the solution that has been presented.
