Tin is one of the oldest forms of metals that were available even before the Bronze Age. In fact bronze was produced by mixing copper with tin, which led to the evolution of the Bronze Age. Tin is actually available in the form of tin ore under the surface of the earth. The tin that is extracted from below the surface of the earth contains only a portion of the actual tin metal. The extracted tin goes through a series of process before a 100% pure tin is collected at later stages. The first stage the extracted tin passes through is called the smelting process. In this process, the tin ore is heated along with coal to a temperature of 2000 degree Fahrenheit. During this smelting process, the carbon present in the coal reacts with the tin ore and produces carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide then reacts again with the tin ore and starts producing what is known as the crude tin. The crude tin that been manufactured by the smelting process is then subjected to a process called refining, where the impurities such as sand and dirt are removed from the crude tin by mechanical and chemical means. The crude tin that is obtained by the smelting process is then placed in a low temperature furnace and is subjected to a process called liquidation. In this process, the solid crude tin is allowed to liquidate by reducing the temperature and pressure inside the chamber. After the first level of refining process, the next part of the refining process starts. This process is called the boiling process, in which the already refined tin is subjected to high temperature and pressure which further removes the impurities and soily substances from the tin. The tin obtained by the boiling process is 99% pure. For obtaining 100% pure tin, this 99% refined tin is then subjected o a process called electrolytic refining. At the end of this process, 100% pure tin will be extracted. The 100% pure tin cannot be used as such. In order to convert this pure tin into a usable form, the tin is converted into casting bars, which can be used for commercial and industrial purposes. Throughout the tin manufacturing process, there are no harmful by products that are produced. Hence the tin manufacturing process does not do any harm to the surrounding environment and is extremely safe, clean and does not pollute the environment.
