There has never been a better time to buy a house, especially with the number of foreclosures on the market. As long as you have a reasonably low loan to value relationship, you should be able to clear enough of a profit on your current home and pick up a bargain elsewhere. The housing market is on its way up, so the new house will only increase in value. The main problem with this is what to do with all the furniture if you manage to sell your current home before being able to move into a new one. Depending on how long you’ve owned a house for, there may be more things than will happily sit in the assorted lofts and spare corners of your friend’s and family’s houses. This is where a storage company comes in handy. Everyone will have seen the slightly desolate looking set of cabins somewhere in their hometown operated by the local storage firm, but these soulless boxes are actually the solution to the problems caused by a quick sell. The space is usually rented on a month to month basis, so for a very small amount of money, you can box up your possessions and keep them safe under lock and key until you’re ready to unpack them. The only problem with this solution is that it works fine for those who have small items in their house that can be put in the back of a car and driven to the storage firm. For those people looking to completely empty their house, including beds and couches, the expense of hiring a removal van to take stuff to and from the storage locks can be incredibly high. However, there is a niche market evolving where local moving companies will come and collect all of your pre-boxed items (sadly they won’t do the actual packing just yet!), take them to the storage firm, unpack them and then retrieve them for you on the moving in day. Whilst this may add to the overall cost of the move, they tend to only charge a one-off fee for the service, regardless of how many items you have, or how many trips it takes. They will also have links to a preferred storage company, which saves you the hassle of finding a reputable one, and will also take liability for the safety of your possessions, which can take a lot of the stress out of moving house.
