The amount of Chinese business is amazingly high. The Chinese are making business contracts across the world for natural resources, for exporting of products and economic treaties. Those countries that have been neglected by the West for years are jumping at the chance of aligning themselves with a new super power. Some don’t view their practices as ethical but these officials might not be considering the underlining cultural reason why China is becoming so successful. U.S. politicians are focused on the short-term causes of China’s growth but haven’t answer or made public those hard questions and answers the American people do not want to hear. A World Trade Organization Complaint has been made. In addition the U.S. International Trade Commission will be investing whether or not China is giving unfair subsidies or tax breaks to its businesses. Even though it is possible that such tax breaks and subsidies can make short turn gains it isn’t going to have a long-term affect. The government must investing the money it receives from taxes to improve the infrastructure of China in order to maintain growth. They won’t be able to sustain prolonged tax breaks and subsidies except in very specific industries. The more growth China experiences the more infrastructure it needs. The International Monetary Fund studies the success of China and found that much of their capital growth in terms of new factories, products and services was a direct result of an increase in Chinese worker productivity. American workers productivity is only rising at a mild rate while the Chinese worker is springing forward. Other problems include the shift in American culture from the will to strive for a better life to one that expects concessions and destructive rejection of once valued norms. In the Chinese business world workers adhere to a common culture, continue to strive forward, talk to each other with respect, value punctuality and encourage politeness. When we take a cursory look at the new American culture we find punctuality rare, a sense of entitlement, and the more different you are the better. This results in a society that is difficult to control and a society that is difficult to manage. When your workers don’t listen to you and constantly question there is good chance productivity will be lost? Nobody wants the government to get into the business of value monitoring. However, the U.S. government has been in this process for years and other countries as well have engaged deeply in the process. American values have shifted dramatically since the baby boomer generation and there is little that ties us together. The loss of the older American ideals of hard work, seeking prosperity and striving families have been replaced by something that won’t work in nation building.
