There is a handbag to fit every woman's unique needs, as well as her unique personality. From leopard or zebra print patterns to delicate rose designs, handbags come in striking modern designs as well as those fashioned with traditional elegance in mind. They can be over-sized and roomy to fit everything from toiletries to school or work supplies, or they can be dainty and petite to fit just the basics. One popular type of bag is commonly referred to as a "clutch" handbag, referring to the way that they are carried. These handbags are simply clutched in the woman's hand, and are usually worn to classy events or engagements. Clutch bags are also referred to as "evening bags," and may also be called pocketbooks in certain circles. For example, a romantic dinner at a fine dining restaurant would warrant a woman to carry a clutch handbag. Another common occasion to utilize a clutch handbag would be to ball or gala. While these handbags are used frequently at sophisticated events such as these, there are also casual clutch handbags that could be carried from day to day, even just while running errands or shopping at the grocery store. It all depends on the specific needs of each woman and what she deems necessary to carry with her. Another popular bag is the shoulder bag. Shoulder bags sport straps that are long enough for a woman to put her arm through, and then the handbag is worn resting over the shoulder. Shoulder bags can be very large, and some may be referred to as "hobo" bags because of their eccentrically large size. Large bags do not cause stares of disapproval, and have been at the forefront of fashion and highly sought after. Not only are they highly stylish, they can disguise just how many items are contained within and allow women to carry a multitude of important objects. Satchel style handbags often have on singular strap, and may be worn across the body. They may also be called messenger bags. These bags were once used exclusively for carrying papers or documents, and were sometimes the female equivalent of a briefcase. Today, however, this is not the case, and plenty of casual handbags are modeled after the satchel or messenger style. Depending on the material and ways they are used, along with the items they carry, handbags can last a long time. High quality leather handbags are very durable, and can last for years with proper care. Handbags that carry large loads may endure more stress, and may wear out sooner.
