Before you decide to renovate that dismal looking bathroom, there are a few things to keep in mind before you start. The first thing you need to ask yourself is: do I really need to renovate the entire bathroom? There may be some fixtures already in place that are still in perfect working condition and would not be wise to try to replace. The bathtub and toilet might still fulfill their purpose even after a whole remodeling job. After you've decided what does and doesn't need replacing the next question you will need to ask yourself: what sort of design am I looking for? For this part you could either decide on your own, or you could hire a professional interior designer to plan out the project for you. An interior designer will help you make the best choices when remodeling the entire bathroom, they will also pick a color scheme and new fixtures and appliances that will complement the entire look of the bathroom. Lastly you need to consider one more factor: do I want to attempt the renovations on my own or do I hire a professional contractor? If you are confident you have the know-how and the tools then by all means you can complete the project on your own. If you're unsure of your handyman skills then your safest bet would be to hire a professional contractor. When hiring a contractor to remodel your bathroom you do have to be aware of a few things. The first is never expect their price quote to be the final price you will pay. Most contractors will add on extra costs and should you refuse to pay them, then you'll be stuck with an unfinished bathroom and a lot of headaches. Another thing to consider is hiring a reliable contractor. You want the job to be finished in a reasonable amount of time, so hiring someone you know personally or someone who is highly recommended is the way to go. With all the planning said and done, now you start choosing the new fixtures and appliances you want for your bathroom. If you are planning on remodeling other parts of your house then you might want to choose a theme that will match the rest of the remodeling. Depending on how old the house you're currently living is, you might want to go with something a little more modern. If your house is older, but in a restored state you might want to choose fixtures that match the classical style, but have a modern feel to them.
