Some researches from USC’s Institute for Creative Technologies took the joke as a serious challenge, and developed the “Gmail Motion” for real. What is Gmail Motion? Motion sensor gaming is becoming more and more popular each day, and the perfection of Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect and Sony PS3 Move has been amazing. Some companies are also working towards making this facility available on television and computers. That’s why most of us got deceived by the Google joke. The Gmail Motion spoof claimed that users can type letters and send e-mail with full-body movements. Gmail Motion has been developed But, while most of us were fooled by the joke, Evan Suma, a post-doctoral researcher from University of Southern California's Institute for Creative Technologies uploaded a video on Youtube that demonstrated the gesture enabled Gmail. The scientists of USC Institute used the Kinect sensor from Microsoft's Xbox 360 and their own invention Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (FAAST). They connected these with Google's Gmail, to make the motion sensing “Gmail Motion” a reality. The researchers have named this technology SLOOW. It is an acronym of Software Library Optimising Obligatory Waving. New technology is for real The video showed researcher Evan Suma mimicking Google’s prank. He opened an e-mail with a book opening gesture, and replied to the mail by throwing a thumb over his shoulder. For sending a message, he licked an imaginary stamp and posted it on the letter. The video on Youtube is becoming popular day by day, and no matter how funny it looks, the technology is for real.
