I am so happy to see many plus size women stepping outside of the ‘black, black and more black’ comfort zone in plus size dresses. It is true that black is slimming and we all need our basic blacks to fall back on but there is nothing like some colour to lift your spirits. What feels better than a brightly coloured summer dress on a warm summers day? Or a rich warm colour on a cold winters evening to make you feel luxurious. The good news is that plus size dresses are now available in a plethora of glorious colour. Gone are the days of black shapeless shrouds or those awful gaudy florals that were suited only to our grandmothers age bracket. The curvy girl market is thankfully being recognized and catered for by designers and fashion houses around the world. We have never had so much choice in plus size dresses. If you really want a beautiful summer dress for a summer party you can’t do better than a beautiful yellow; It screams summer and fun and being the life of the party. All curvy ladies need to do themselves a favour and add at least 3 beautiful plus size dresses to their closet, dresses that make you look and feel gorgeous. Take a chance with your colours; go for bold beautiful colours and fabric or if you are not completely comfortable going all out with colour, this season offers many other plus size dresses that have a mix of black with accent colours. You can never go wrong with a bright highlight; one of my favourite tricks is to pair a black item with something really colourful or interesting, for example classic black plus size dresses look beautiful with a bright red shrug or an animal print jacket. Give yourself a spark of colour to the body area you want to highlight and tone down the other areas with your classic black. A couple of things to keep in mind when selecting plus size dresses; 1.Shape is key, you want skim your body, big shapeless dresses make you look bigger so resist the urge to go for comfort alone. 2. Versatility is a crucial element to plus size dresses; it’s got to be suitable for work or play. A plus size dress will lend itself to being dressed up with a scarf, jewelery and hot shoes for a night on the town but is equally at home at the office or at a parent teacher meeting with a structured jacket…you get the point. A dress is a versatile thing and a good plus size dress will make you feel a million, a must in anyone’s language!
