The bar stool made its first appearance in small local diners across the nation quite a few decades ago. They were a quick, fun way to take a load off while enjoying a shake or burger, without having to take up an entire table. Of course, a large number of the adolescents in those days just liked to hang out and talk to the soda jerks while enjoying their snacks. While the concept of what constitutes a diner has changed dramatically, bar stools have remained true to their roots. They are still offering up quick and convenient seating, in more places than just local diners. More recently, many people are incorporating bar stools into their kitchen designs for a number of reasons. For one thing, it adds a few extra seats when company comes over. In addition, it provides a place to sit and socialize while someone was working in the kitchen without being in the way. What’s more, bar stools open up the entire counter as a workspace for school projects or entertaining a few friends without having to leave the primary living areas of the house. What is interesting to see is that the bar stool is also being incorporated in kitchen table sets. Furniture makers discovered that the height of the stool actually makes it easier for older folks to sit down. Of course, many older people do not want to sit at a bar to eat, which is why furniture designers created tables that can accommodate the height of the stools. This makes it easier for them to get up and down from the table without the need of assistance. Another common area to find a bar stool is in an art studio. It does not matter if it is a private studio or a school-based one, it is just easier for the creative side of people to come out when they are sitting on a less restrictive chair and they are able to move freely. This is in contrast to the more traditional chair that needs to be sat on in a specific way or it will become uncomfortable. In other cases, it is just important for an artist to be on the same level as their project and the stool allows them to do that. It is hard to say where bar stools will branch out to next. They might make their way into the workplace or become a key design piece in the next generation of upscale restaurants. There are no limitations to where they can go or what they have to look like. The creativity of what people can think up makes the possibilities endless. About the Author Stephanie Olson loves the conveniences that bar stools offer. There is something fun about sitting up higher than normal to eat a meal. In addition, she is able to maximize the little space that she has in her dining area by incorporating two under the counter bar stool, which she can pull out whenever needed.
