Our family loves to go camping in the summer and we also do a lot of tailgating in the spring and fall. We needed a good portable grill to be able to stand up to a lot of wear and tear and ultimately decided on the Roadtrip Grill LX from Coleman (model number 9941-768). If you are in the market for a really nice camping grill, here is a review of the Coleman Roadtrip to help you in your research. The grill is large enough to feed our family of five plus guests. It's not a huge grill, but then we didn't want to lug a huge grill around either. To give you an idea of the grill size, it can hold about 30 hot dogs or brat wursts at a time. We wanted something that was easy to transport and fairly lightweight. This model weighs about 50 pounds all told, so it's not super heavy. The electric starter is a nice bonus and the unit heats up nice and quick. No more messy charcoal cleanup or icky lighter fluid smell with this grill! After we got this grill I really could not believe how great and convenient an electric starter is. The unit itself comes standard with a grill and a griddle. The griddle is nice for scrambled eggs, pancakes nachos and cheese, and bacon. I actually prefer to cook my fish on it too. The grill is for the usual cookout fare including: hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, and bbq chicken. For your convenience, you can set the grill up on its stand or if you prefer you can just set it up on a picnic table as a tabletop grill. This makes set up hassle free and easy no matter where you take your grilling. As for my family, we grill everywhere from parks to the beach to the woods to parking lots for tailgating. The lid is vented, which helps prevent the food from being scorched. The other great thing about the lid being vented is that you can cook with the top down in windy or drizzly conditions. Not that we ever have bad weather when we camp! Also if you just want to keep your food warmed, or even slow cook your food, you can just keep the lid down too. If you want the whole area as a grill, you have to purchase a second grill insert separately. I think this could have easily been included, so that is a downside in my book. However a the grill insert certainly is not expensive. You are also left with a pan of greasy water after cooking, which can be a hassle to dispose of. These are the only major downfalls I can see with this grill, and really not deal breakers in my book. One of the things that really influenced our buying decision is the sheer number of four and five star reviews we read at Amazon. These are very good to excellent ratings. Knowing that there are a lot of satisfied customers and campers alike made us feel confident about this purchase. It's really nice before you lay down your hard earned money to research and read the reviews of other people who have owned and used this grill for awhile. Most of the negative reviews had to do with shipping issues. The quality of the grill itself never really seemed to be in question, and the price was considered more than fair. One thing we didn't hesitate on was getting our grill through Amazon. We have used Amazon for many purchases in the past and they always come in the lowest on price. So you can buy with confidence there. Cooks anyplace at anytime. Is better and cheaper than a Weber, and it's sturdier than the Coleman model on wheels. The Coleman 9941-768 RoadTrip Grill is an all around great portable grill and comes highly recommended by my family.
