Topamax (Topiramat) is a prescribed medicine manufactured by Ortho-Mcnell Neurologics, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. This drug has been approved by FDA for prevention of Migraine headaches and it also being used for treating patients who suffer from epileptic seizures. For epileptic seizures the drug is used alone or mixed with other ingredients of seizure medication; however sources say there is a warning attached to this drug. Topamax does not suit everyone, there are some who consume this drug and suffer from side effects, such as Topamax birth defects. If you are suffering from some ailments such as Glaucoma, Kidney stones and severe diarrhea then you are not supposed to have Topamax because it will affect your health and possibility of side effects is also there. For those who are taking medications which includes vitamins, herbal supplements and non prescription drugs, it can be harmful to them. So it is always better to consult your Health Provider before going in for Topamax. A warning here, please remember Topamax has to be taken twice a day and it comes in the form of tablets or sprinkle capsules and has to be consumed orally by mouth. Topamax is usually prescribed by a doctor depending on your medical condition. This drug is supposed to be strong and also known to have a lot of side effects. The most common of the side effects from this drug are a bout of dizziness fatigue and also nervousness. Children are also affected by the way of constipation, hair loss and running fever. Most of the cases are minor ailments and can be treated at home. But still to be on the safe side it is nice to consult your doctor. For instance if your child experiences chest problems, blurring vision and breathing problems, it should be immediately brought to the notice of your doctor. Usually most of the prescribed medicines including Topamax do have some side effects which are quite normal and can be tolerated. But in the case of children, there have been Topamax birth defects so take it seriously and consult a doctor. According to clinical studies one of Topamax side effect is depression. About 13% of the people who have been prescribed this medicine have suffered from depression. As depression symptoms are quite serious and it is due to some nerve disorder. So a warning here would be to call on your doctor and explain it to him. You have to be fully aware when you have been prescribed Topamax. You have to be all time ready to take the right precaution because Topamax may have a potential drug interaction. So you have to be careful if you are suffering from liver ailments and for women specially those who breast feed their child because the drug passes through her breasts and can have a fatal effect on the nursing child and hence the kid becomes a victim of Topamax birth defects. Warning on Topamax: There are chances of side effects when consuming Topamax. It can affect those suffering from Glaucoma, Kidney stones and parasthesic. Patients also have a chance of coming into cognitive or psychiatric problems. Topamax should not be taken if you are allergic to any ingredient which is combined in it to manufacture the product.
