Shopping areas you must visit when taking flights to Kuala Lumpur

Travel & Tourism
If you love to do nothing more than splash the cash and go shopping while on holiday, than you may want to consider booking flights to Kuala Lumpur.

As Malaysia's capital and largest city, Kuala Lumpur is awash with fantastic malls and markets. Whatever you're looking to pick up you are bound to find it here and it is also possible to combine a session of retail therapy with sightseeing. Read on to find out more about some of the city's best shopping areas.

Shopaholics are sure to love spending a day at the Pavilion mall. Located in the Bukit Bintang area of the city, the outlet has some 1.37 million square feet of retail space so you are unlikely to run out of places where you can spend your money.

A wide range of products can be bought here including health and beauty goods and footwear to watches and health and fitness equipment.

Should you be keen to take a piece of Kuala Lumpur home with you, make sure to stop by the numerous shops that sell oriental art and soft furnishings.

If you've worked up an appetite from all that shopping, head to the food courts. A wide variety of cuisine can be eaten here including Lebanese, Indian, Japanese and of course Malaysian.

A number of car manufacturers have showrooms at the Pavilion mall, so you can also see some fantastic luxury vehicles.

With a range of special promotions and one-off events held throughout the year, you can be sure of getting your hands on a bargain while shopping at the mall. To save even more money pick up a special tourist card from the concierge desk, however you will need to bring your passport with you in order to receive such discounts.

But the Pavilion is by no means the only shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur and you may also want to visit the Suria KLCC outlet. Situated at the bottom of the iconic Petronas Towers, this development is home to some of the country's leading retailers, as well as a range of international brands.

Men's and women's fashion can be purchased here, as can leather goods. If you want to get the best possible prices make sure you pick up the Tourist Privilege Card, which is exclusively available to foreign travellers.

However, there is much more to Suria KLCC than just shopping. You can see some fascinating marine wildlife when you pay a visit to the Aquaria, before grabbing a snack at the food court and catching the latest films at the multiscreen cinema.

With so many shops and other places to spend your cash you may soon find that you're running low on funds. However, there's no need to worry as the retail outlet contains a bureau de change and several ATMs.

Situated nearby is the Avenue K mall, where some of the biggest names in international fashion have stores, great if you're looking to buy yourself a whole new wardrobe while in the city.

Once you've had your fill of shopping you may want to finish off your day with a little sightseeing.

And as the Suria KLCC is situated at the base of the Petronas Towers you're in the ideal place to do this. The twin skyscrapers were the tallest buildings in the world between 1998 and 2004 and by heading to the skyway on the 41st and 42nd floors you will be able to see some fantastic views of Kuala Lumpur.

If you're something of a bargain hunter then you will want to head to Chinatown. Located around Petaling Street, this part of Kuala Lumpur is crammed with independent traders so make sure you haggle with them in order to get the best possible price.

Everything from wallets to handbags can be purchased here, and you can also buy ginseng and other traditional Chinese remedies.

There are also a number of jewellery stores, so you may be able to pick up exquisite bracelets and necklaces for much less than you would expect to pay back in the UK.

Chinatown is also home to several historic temples, including the Sri Mahamariamman temple, which is the oldest Hindu place of worship in the city. You can also visit the Kuan Ti temple, dedicated to the Chinese god of war and literature of the same name.

With so many fantastic shopping areas and sights, make sure that you leave plenty of room in your suitcase when taking flights to Kuala Lumpur.

If you've always wanted to travel to Kuala Lumpur come to netflights.com. We scour deals on flights to Kuala Lumpur on a daily basis, so you can be sure of getting a good price. The money you save by coming to us could give you more case with which to go sightseeing.
