Spring is just around the corner and we all know what that means! It’s time to clean out our closets, garage, and basement. But did you know that your spring cleaning checklist should also include an Air Conditioning tune up? The reasons for this are that over the years your AC gets jammed up with dust and other air contaminants that can keep your AC from working to its full capacity. A fully functioning air conditioner can save you money on your energy bills and provide better comfort on those hot summer days. A quality AC tune up includes: - Measurement of the airflow of your system. Most air conditioners require 400 cubic feet per minute to operate at full capacity. To increase air flow clean the blower wheel and filters.
- Condenser cleaning. This can be cleaned by spraying the exterior with a heavy foaming cleanser. Let it soak for 15 minutes and then rinse.
- Measurement of indoor and outdoor conditions. A professional technician will have the right tools to measure the indoor and outdoor wet and dry bulbs.
- Adjustment of the refrigerant charge. This is important and after the air flow is set, the technician will hook up the right equipment to set the refrigerant charge.
A basic AC tune up generally costs around $60. But this is only a general tune up and will not get your AC functioning to its fullest capacity. It’s best to pay a little more money for a full AC tune up because experts say you can save up to 25% on your utility bills once your AC is fully functioning.
