Though meditation in ancient times was used mainly for spiritual excultation, these days meditation serves several purposes but mainly to put the mind in a tranquil state. One may opt to meditate in different time of the day or at varying levels of emotions. During dawn, or the first hour in a day, is generally the advisable time to do such activity. This is because the mind is calmer and fresher during this moment. Meditation can also be done formally or informally, depending on one’s choice and lifestyle. Some people include meditation as their daily routine. Closing the day with a meditation helps them reduce stress from the long day of work. Keeping silence for just a few minutes can also be categorized as meditation. At this time, a person may experience a sea of quiet relaxation. This experience may be a light sleep state or even the extent of hypnosis. The latter is not categorized as meditation though. Many experts prove that meditation does more good to the body than a normal nap in a day. Aside from the traditional methods of meditation, a variety of approaches is now available. There are materials and instructions that provide a wide range of intense ideas and thoughts to meditate upon. Example of these ideas are concepts from ancient texts and modern theories like Bhagavad Gita, Isavasyopanishad, Gaia theory, TES (Time Energy Space) Hypothesis, Energy concepts, and so on. These will guide you in attaining a cosmic perspective in life. Also, meditation is one of the central aspects of a yoga practice. Among other aspects are proper breathing exercises and varied poses. Yoga practice is an extensive system of movement to achieve both tranquil mind state and excellent physical health. With proper diet, meditation and sufficient exercise, a person may live a stress-free and pain-free life despite a fast-paced lifestyle. A good time to meditate is in the morning, although you can meditate anytime and any where. It is a good idea to put by a set time and place to meditate, that way you are setting up a 'routine' to the universe with your intentions. A bit like a door, as the door is opened - then you may enter. In the event that you are unable to meditate as suggested, then you can do this on the move (as long as you are not driving etc). If you are a passanger, then just close your eyes and imagine your sacred place. Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher.
