The Benefits of Polysaccharides On Your Immunity

Fungi such as Reishi , Chaga (Inonotus Obliquus) and Cordyceps have been highly valued throughout the planet as both food and medicine for thousands of years. Researchers and scientist have come to the realization that mushrooms may also be the perfect food for staying fit and healthy. The fact is, pretty much 2/3 of the U.S. population is fat. The small amounts of fat that occur in mushrooms are primarily of unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic acid. Some of the most beneficial foods are those that include unsaturated fatty acids.

In fact, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute advises that each of us eats a daily diet that incorporates a total calorie intake of 25 to 30 percent fat, and of this fat, 93 percent of it must be unsaturated. The most important (health benefit of unsaturated fatty acid is its potential to help reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels (triglycerides are the most popular type of fat in our body and a high amount of it can be found in many people with high cholesterol levels and heart problems). The principal health benefit of unsaturated fatty acid is its potential to help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.} A increased cholesterol level means a high risk of heart disease, as well as stroke. This is why mushrooms may be the perfect food for losing weight and maintaining a healthy heart

In the 7000 years Chinese history, mushrooms have played an important role. Mushrooms were utilized for there healing properties throughout Asia, but to a much larger extent in China. The most commonly used medicinal mushroom and herbs are Reishi, Cordyceps, Ginseng, and Astragalus in Traditional Chinese Medicine. These are the superior class of medicines, tonics, which are said to increase strength, vigor, longevity, and regulate deficiencies in our bodies.

Based on clinical studies medicinal mushrooms can stimulate immune function and reverse and stop tumor growth Polysaccharides are large, complex branched chain-like molecules built from many smaller units of sugar molecules. Research on polysaccharides have shown anti tumor and immune stimulation properties. Echinacea and Astragalus both contain immune activating polysaccharides like those of medicinal mushrooms. Besides the strong antitumor and immune enhancing effects of polysaccharides in medicinal mushrooms, studies has also shown polysaccharides to have antiviral properties. Medicinal mushroom polysaccharides also have the ability to lower blood pressure and reduce blood levels of lipids and sugar.

The polysaccharides from mushrooms do not attack cancer cells directly, but produce their antitumor effects by activating different immune response in the host. Polysaccharides help the body to adapt to various environmental and biological stresses.

Two additional compounds found in medicinal mushrooms are terpenes and steroids. These compounds are reported to have adaptogenic and antihypertensive, as well as anti-allergic effects. Other compounds found in medicinal mushrooms are steroids and terpenes. Tri-terpenes are found in large amounts in Chinese Red Reishi.. These active compounds make many medicinal mushrooms valuable for treating infections, flu, diabetes, and even AIDS..

Notice: When deciding on a medicinal mushroom extract make sure you select one with a higher percentage of the active compounds of polysaccharides (20%+) and terpenes (4%+).

Note that many products don't list these percentages, it safe to assume those products have none of these medicinal compounds.
