Breathe new life into your home with interior decorating

Travel & Tourism
After being in one place for several years, it is little wonder that homeowners can get restless and start thinking of moving to pastures new, but with a simple home improvement scheme you could find you have your dream property in next to no time!

Decorating the inside of your home may seem like a daunting task but it really doesn't have to be - there are so many little jobs that you can do over time that will help the work to fly by. And soon, you will find you are enjoying a property that has a whole new lease of life.

If you are looking for some inspiration then one of the first things you could do is go through a stack of glossy property magazines and tear out any of the ideas or images you like to see if they will work well in your own home. But remember, you should always talk to the rest of your household to seek their input and approval - you never know, they may come up with an idea that you love!

Speaking to friends and family who have recently redecorated could also be advisable as they are sure to have plenty of hints and tips they are keen to pass on, and you may even be able to rope a few in to help - although it could be said you will get a better result by hiring the services of professional decorators.

One of the best places to start when decorating the interior of your home is by looking at your furniture with fresh eyes. Is it really in the best layout? It could be that the position you have chosen to place your furniture in is using up valuable space that could make a room feel a lot bigger. In addition, there may be items you really don't need - such as freestanding shelves which could easily be replaced with wall-mounted units using a bit of DIY know-how.

When you have moved the furniture around it is time to dig out your paint brushes and rollers. Choosing a colour to paint your room with can seem like a daunting task, particularly as it is unlikely you will want to have to re-do it in a few months time when you find something new you like. For this reason many homeowners fall into the trap of choosing bland shades such as magnolia, but you should never be afraid to try something a little more daring.

A feature wall can be perfect way to achieve this. If there is a bold and bright pattern you have had your eye on that you feel could make a real statement in your home then simply use it to decorate one wall, before painting the other walls in a complementary but toned-down shade. This will allow you to create a focal point, without it over-powering the rest of the space. And, if you do fancy a change, it is a lot easier to replace than if you have to tackle four walls!

Next, you could look to your floors. A carpet that has been walked on for many years may no longer be looking its best and while a quick shampoo could return it somewhere near to its former glory, you may fancy a change. So why not look under the carpet - if you are in luck you may find hardwood floors hiding there that will look great once they have been sanded down and polished. Alternatively, you could invest in new wooden or laminate floors to quickly give your rooms a whole new look.

Now that you have done the bulk of the redecorating, you will want to show off the new room in all its glory and with this in mind you could consider a different lighting plan. LED lighting is proving increasingly popular and in addition to being more environmentally-friendly than old electric lights, it also looks more modern and allows you to have better control over the amount of your room that is illuminated.

Once all of this has been done you can throw yourself into the fun stuff, such as selecting new soft furnishings like cushions and curtains. You will certainly be glad you decided to redecorate - it's a lot easier and cheaper than you think.

Rated People is the ideal way to find recommended tradesmen in your area. If you have a home improvement project in mind and would rather invest in the services of professional decorators than rely on your own DIY skills, there is nowhere better to look.
