It's a new year and with more people traveling, more people are expected to be staying in hotels, which in turn means higher occupancy rates and the need for more hotel supplies. Hotels are a big part of the guest-driven hospitality industry and hoteliers know that if guests are not pleased with the amenities and hotel supplies, occupancy rates suffer. So what are people looking for? What will make people choose one hotel over another? Which hotel supplies, fixtures and overhauls will help hotels maintain high occupancy rates through the new year? Going green is the newest trend and hotels are finding hotel supplies that are more environmentally friendly which guests appear to be embracing, which affects occupancy rates. For example, there are hotel supplies made with fibers that are more durable, comparable price wise and more environmentally friendly. As well, packaging is more streamlined and many hotels have hotel supplies such as water saving shower heads. Fair trade coffee is also gaining popularity. Occupancy rates are also positively affected by eco-friendly best practices. In addition to hotel supplies, hotels often display energy saving tips, including reminders to turn off the water while brushing your teeth, which they've notice positively affect their occupancy rates. Many hotels are also implementing best practices such as offering discounts if guests agree to re-use towels and linens during their stay. Many people are happy to comply as re-use is habit for most. Hotels also are finding that being eco-friendly from the décor to the hotel supplies increases occupancy rates. In an effort to maintain, or increase, occupancy rates, many hotels have also undertaken costly updates and renovations that in some cases are simply décor updates for the 21st century while others have updated and increased their hotel supplies in a cost effective manner. In some cases, it has meant converting to more neutral tones while in others it has meant updating lighting and adding energy saving fixtures. Still in other cases, hotels have begun welcoming pets and adding kid-friendly hotel supplies such as chalk board paint which, again, has been shown to help them maintain or increase occupancy rates. Overall, hotels realize that the trend for 2011 is an increase in travel and hotel stays which means more hotel supplies and great occupancy rates. Everyone, families and business professionals alike, are traveling more which increases overall occupancy rates. People don't appear to be getting more demanding or desirous of more or better hotel supplies, either, as rates remain steady. Hotels know guests are their lifeblood and they make every effort to make their facilities more guest friendly, which will help them maintain or increase occupancy rates well into 2011.
