For a longer view of Croatia's history, Plitvice Lakes National Park is a must-visit. This World Heritage site shows how the flow of water over chalk and limestone deposits over a period of thousands of years have formed a series of natural dams that have created some spectacular caves, lakes and waterfalls. Several rare animal species live in the park, including bears and wolves, so a trip to the attraction is sure to make for a particularly fascinating leg of your Croatia holiday.
