This magnificent artefact is believed to have been created in the late 11th century and remains the most important visual depiction of England's fall to William the Conqueror in 1066. Measuring nearly 70 metres long, the embroidered cloth can be seen at the Bayeux Tapestry Museum, where it has been well-preserved. Look out for museums in Bessin detailing the D-Day landings of the second world war and try to make time to visit the sites of the landings at Gold, Juno and Omaha beaches. You could also head to the original location of the Battle of Normandy for a deeper insight into the event.
