The AIL (Accademia Italiana di Lingua) is a non-profit association of schools and educators that was founded in 1984 to foster a program of certification in the Italian language. The certifications offered correspond to and reflect all the levels of communication recognized by the European Portfolio (ELP). Scuola Leonardo da Vinci, with centres inFlorence, Milan, Rome and Siena, is a founding member of the AIL and offers preparatory courses for the official examinations of Italian as a foreign language. Students may take the preparation courses and exams in any of the four centres as well as in certain authorized schools in Italy and abroad. Courses last four weeks and take place the month before the exam sessions in March, June, September and December. The Italian language certifications are indicated for a variety of personal or professional reasons. Appropriate candidates would include those who travel and wish to spend a holiday in Italy, those who would like to study or work in Italy, or simply those who would like to deepen their appreciation for the Italian culture. The intensive exam-preparatory courses are divided into different ability levels and include drills and exam simulations with test sheets. The certifications offered for each required level of the European Portfolio A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 are: the DELI A2 exam, the DILI B1 exam, the DILI B2 exam, the DALI C1 exam, and the DALI C2 exam. There are also two specific commercial Italian language exams at the Intermediate (B1) and Advanced (C1) levels. All exams involve listening and reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, and written and oral expression. Further information about the Italian language diplomas offered by AIL are available on the school’s website
