If you're looking for a Spanish break where you can experience ruggedly beautiful countryside, you might be surprised to find you can have your wish on holidays to Majorca. The island may be known as a partying destination where many people go to soak up the sun and dance until dawn, but there is so much more to Majorca. It's true that the southern regions of the island are thriving and offer a great party atmosphere, but the northern areas are much quieter and boast some fantastic scenery - perfect for relaxing in natural surroundings. The largest of the Balearic Islands, Majorca is also one of the most popular. There are various different types of landscape to be found here, whether you like mountainous views, agricultural scenery or coastal settings. In the north, you'll find lots of countryside waiting to be discovered. Among the many groves and tall grass, there are some great peaks to marvel at - and scale if you've a head for heights. The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range is a great place to visit if you want to experience some breathtaking landscapes. Puid Major is the highest of the summits and you can walk among the peaks to gain a fantastic bird's eye view over the island. Meanwhile, if you stroll around the area at the foot of the mountains, you can expect to find all kinds of produce growing, such as grapes, olives, oranges and lemons, adding to the charm of this rugged area. To experience rustic Majorca, travel east of the Tramuntana mountains to the island's central plain - Es Pla. Largely flat, this area is perfect for farming and is used mainly for agriculture, such as growing vast groves of almonds and olives. Another fantastic destination if you're after more beautiful sights is the sanctuary of Lluc in north-west Majorca. This is the island's spiritual capital and is home to a monastery and some famous religious idols. But it is also where you'll find more breathtaking landscapes. Lluc is situated in a basin surrounded by mountains and is a popular place for walkers to explore. You can even begin a hike here and journey all the way to the Tramuntana mountains to really get a feel for the stunning scenery on the island.
