Where better to go for ski holidays than the famous Mont Blanc, in the Chamonix region of south-eastern France? The commune in Haute-Savoie is a fantastic location for a holiday, as there are many ski apartments to choose from across the 16 villages and hamlets in the area. Whether you want to be in the middle of all the action and close to amenities, or fancy some peace and quiet in a secluded spot, you're sure to find both in Chamonix. After getting settled into your accommodation, wrap up warm and venture outdoors to the slopes. A haven for skiers, the region is also renowned for its other winter sports, from ice climbing and snowboarding to extreme skiing. But the beauty of the area and its proximity to Mont Blanc makes it great for enjoying the natural scenery, too. Take a walk through the mountains or even try your hand at scaling the famous peak for some fantastic views. If skiing is what you've come for, however, you won't be disappointed. There are three areas to cover: Brevent /Flegere, which has many south-facing slopes and striking views of Mont Blanc; the Grands Montets - with high altitude north-facing slopes; and the Balme area, where you'll find wide open slopes at the top of the valley. There are also three smaller valley skiing spots that cater for children and beginners, so you're sure to find something suitable for every member of your party. Once you've tired of exerting yourself on the slopes, why not take the time to explore more of the area? There's a gallery of contemporary art and a crystal museum to visit, along with the Alpine Museum - where you can find out more about Chamonix's development over the years. And there's plenty of fun to be hand for youngsters, too. Children are likely to enjoy taking a dog sleigh ride through the snow and spending a few hours with the huskies learning to be a musher. There are also plenty of opportunities to go sledging, which can be both fun and exhilarating; depending on how fast you speed down the slopes! And if you're really brave, have a go at paragliding for some truly breathtaking views.
