Sometimes it’s good to start the art of scrapbooking not only because it is fun, it will also help you organize your photos and memorabilia in chronological order. Well, not necessarily chronologically because it’s all up to you really. The thing is, you can compile all the card and all the paper and what not that you have. This so that you don’t really have to squint your eyes trying to read the caption at the back of the photo when you reach the age of 60s or 80s. Other than that, scrapbooking is amusement per se. It not only enhances your fine motor skills, it also keeps your brain working and it also strengthens your creativity. Imagine working on something worthwhile and memorable from bits of paper. From a simple card to something you can flip open to reminisce the things you did before. Others have this impression that scrapbooking is expensive and tiresome. While it is true that there are materials that can be readily used and are available in bookshops, it doesn’t mean that you really have to run to the shops and buy them. You can use bits of paper and old card. Some cut-outs and odds and ends that you think you can use to start building your gold mine of memories. You don’t have to complete your album in one sitting either. It has to be continuously worked on until such time that you are able to complete the album. Then you need to start on a new one as soon as you are done with another one. It’s a hobby. Something that you do for pleasure. I’ve seen a scrapbook of a friend and she had it labeled as “travels”. I was amused with how well traveled she is and not only that, she gave colour to her wanderings with the things that she put in her album. It’s not just card and photo paper inside. She even included some restaurant bills, her airplane ticket, coins and other things I can’t even put a name on. While keeping your photos in a photo album is the traditional thing to do, it would be fun if you can add colour and texture to it. Add captions to pictures. Give life to important events captured in paper. Adorn your album with a common theme. All you need is a creative mind, an eye for materials to use, patience and some spare time.
