Have you seen those athletes with the fabulous firm slim bodies? They have a different metabolism (the body's engine) from the average person. Their metabolic motor responds to exercise and food very differently from the majority of us but it does not mean we cannot learn from them. With their high activity levels they have generated a lot forward momentum towards getting and staying strong, vital and slim. If you have been going in the opposite direction for some time (maybe a lot of time) you may have become overweight to some degree or another. To lose this weight and become healthy and slim again it is more than just losing weight. This is only half the equation. If you do not make the necessary changes to your metabolism right down at its fundamental level you will still have the propensity to store excess body fat. This not only spoils your appearance but puts you at risk for serious health conditions. It is a shame that most of the diet programs that claim to help you get rid of excess fat weight use harsh metabolism decreasing restrictive food diets that only end up making it harder for you in the long run. Also most weight loss programs either do not recommend exercise, or not enough proper exercise such as strength training. If your metabolism has slowed as your body weight has increased it may take a little longer to kick it back into gear again especially if you have lost lean body mass (muscle tissue). Your strength training exercise program is extremely important in cases of 'metabolic damage' as your muscle tissue is the engine that drives your metabolism. Some women resist this saying they do not want to do resistance training as part of their fat loss program. If you have this attitude you can expect a very long metabolic repair process if it happens at all. To enable you to put the necessary effort into your strength training program you need to support it with good nutrition. This means ditching the processed foods and cooking natural whole foods from scratch. Small meals every 2-3 hours each with at least 20 grams of quality protein are going to keep you feeling full and satisfied so you do not experience intense food cravings that will drive even the most dedicated dieter to the fridge or pantry looking for extra food. Just these two strategies - proper exercise and healthy eating will make your metabolism more efficient in just a few weeks. Give it a couple of months and it will be running hot burning that excess fat from your body. In 12 months or so it will be like a turbo-charged machine and you will not have an overweight problem anymore as it will be long gone. It will take consistent diligent effort there is no getting away from that - but it will be worth it just wait and see.
