As the summer winds down and we quickly move into fall, we are reminded of the value of quality aluminum windows, vinyl windows and patio doors. There is a sudden point where the realization of the value of a quality energy efficient aluminum or vinyl window is incredibly apparent. It usually goes something like this: all summer you’ve been pumping the air conditioning just trying to keep your house cool. Then one night everything changes. The first cold front of the year happened to roll into town, and while you might not be a meteorologist, you definitely know something changed (bear in mind that this scenario is intended for those living without the indoor climate stabilization offered by quality aluminum windows). You have been trying to keep cool all summer and have been sleeping with fans and air conditioning running full tilt through the night and are even using the light sheets to top it all off. Well, this particular night is a little different and that cold front is making itself know. The quality of those old worn out aluminum windows or vinyl windows suddenly becomes transparent as it becomes clear just how easily they let cold air seep into your home. Since the thermostat was still on cooling mode, there was no heater chugging away to mask the failing aluminum or vinyl windows. Nope, this particular night goes down in the record books as one of the coldest nights of sleep in your life. And, for many, this happens every year. It is important to remember that this is happening every day regardless of whether the temperature is hot or cold outside. If inferior windows are the only thing keeping out the weather, then you’re probably paying too much in heating and cooling costs. Replacement vinyl windows and replacement aluminum windows can mean the difference between year after year of high energy costs and a sustainable indoor climate. Croft
