Most families only move to a new house several times so the decision to pack up and live somewhere else isn't taken lightly by parents. Major decisions in life come at a cost to many people in terms of stress and feelings of panic. Anxiety is an emotion that can take over the entire day so the symptoms must be recognized and controlled. Moving to a new home and neighborhood, although discussed and studied beforehand is still filled with real or imagined potential hazards that can lead to a chronic feeling of panic for some family members long before the moving company arrives. When the house moving is complete the family may discover that they have hostile neighbors, the kids don't like the new school, or other unforeseen complications. It's natural to have feelings of anxiety when moving away from friends and other family members because you're heading for the unknown in a new location and you are hoping that your hopes aren't dashed by any number of things that can go wrong. It's a one-way journey and you will have to make the best of it once the long distance moving company has gone and left you to unpack the moving boxes and start to organize your new home. The fear can be overwhelming when you're not keeping busy so the first logical step to ease tension is to find things to do that will take your mind off those dreaded imaginary consequences. Anxiety can be described as the mental state one goes into when they are anticipating the worst; panic is the point at which you fear you have made the wrong decision. The anxious person may become paranoid, experience memory lapses, have trouble concentrating, and become exceedingly restless and jittery. In epileptics all of these factors are magnified as the brain's thoughts speed up; combined with a catalyst like adrenaline or emotionality a complex partial seizure can occur. This leads to a state similar to autism where the signals from the brain are too plentiful to process so they don't reach parts of the body like those needed for speaking and directing movement. The person may just wander away in spite of the brain trying to sort out the situation. The after-effects of an anxiety episode that profound can last for many months. Coping with dread and anxiety has to be a conscious effort because the feeling will only get worse; perhaps moving is only one of the causes. Insecurity is a leading cause of panic and is very real to many wives who are afraid that the husband is getting too many looks from younger women or that the children are growing up and drifting from the family. They may be afraid of not fitting in and making new friends. At this point they may need someone to keep their confidence up so having at least one close confidante is a great boost to the morale and calm the nerves. Cutting back on caffeine, tobacco, and overeating will prevent those vices to add to the stress. A regular sleep pattern is also helpful; some people suffer insomnia while in states of anxiety while others get depressed and sleep too much to escape the tension. Neither is good for the body and chronic stress will inevitably lead to physical health problems. Exercise is the best relief, especially Yoga and Tai Chi Chuan, two systems that train the body to relax. The classes will also lead to making some new friends, a sure-fire way to feel accepted in your new surroundings.
