Indeed, you would find it difficult to avoid the religious building altogether because its square minaret stands at almost 70 m in height and is an imposing structure that dominates the city's skyline. While there are many places from which you can see the minaret, one of the best for enjoying views of the tower is the rose garden to the west of the mosque. If you want to take a closer look, then you are welcome to do so. However, if you intend to venture inside you should note that non-Muslims are only allowed into certain parts of the building. As you walk around the impressive structure, you will no doubt see how this mosque inspired architects over the years - including those who built the impressive Giralda in Seville and were said to have used the minaret as a blueprint. Nearby, you will also find a booksellers' market that has been in existence for longer than the mosque. In fact, Koutoubia Mosque took its name from this market - the Arabic word for book is koutoub. Once you have finished admiring the stunning landmark, you may want to make your way to one of the busiest squares in Marrakesh - Jemaa El Fna - where you will find storytellers, snake charmers and other performers all waiting to capture your attention and put on a magical show.
