WS-SUP720 vs WS-SUP720-3B vs WS-SUP720-3BXL

Catalyst 6500 series equipped with Supervisor Engine 720 sets the standard for multi-layer switches and distribution companies of applications within the campus and the vendor's site networks. By introducing Supervisor Engine 720-layer network core and distribution centers Metro Ethernet data, the Catalyst 6500 can help maximize user productivity, enable new revenue-generating services and improve operational control. In addition, Supervisor Engine 720 provides investment protection for current Catalyst 6500 deployments by supporting existing modules while enabling new applications. The Catalyst 6500 Supervisor Engine 720 combines high performance 720 Gbps switch fabric, a new routing engine and transmission, as third generation Policy Feature Card (PFC3).
Supervisor 720 builds on the proven Cisco Express Forwarding architecture, by supporting centralized forwarding, Distributed Forwarding and now accelerated CEF to provide highly scalable and affordable platform, ideal for high-performance data centers environments as a backbone. Supervisor Engine 720 delivers scalability, intelligence, and a wide range of features to satisfy the most demanding service provider and business requirements for the use of modular, flexible, scalable, secure, multi-layer switch solutions.
They are designed designed to provide scalable performance and a rich set of IP features in hardware. Its feature set allows hardware-based applications such as traditional IP routing, Layer 2 and Layer 3 Multiprotocol Label Switching VPNs, Ethernet over MPLS with Quality of Service and security features. The Supervisor Engine 720 integrates a high performance switch fabric 720 Gbps crossbar with a forwarding engine in a single module that provides 40 Gbps of switching capacity per slot (enabling 4-port 10GE and 48-port 10/100/1000 card line density). With hardware-enabled forwarding of 400 Mpps for IPv4, and 200 Mpps IPv6.

Improving security, rich QoS and scalable performance Gigabit and 10 Gigabit, Sup720 is ideal for enterprise core and distribution and also data centers. Supervisor Engine 720 builds on the proven Cisco Express Forwarding architecture, by supporting centralized forwarding and share the shipping. PFC3 to distinguish between different variants of the Supervisor 720 families of engines. There are three flavors, PFC3A, PFC3B PFC3BXL and corresponds to the WS-SUP720, WS-SUP720-3B WS-SUP720-3B. Supervisor Engine 720 family is supported by both operating systems, Cisco Catalyst OS and Cisco IOS.
Cisco Supervisor Engine 720 offers a solid set of security functions. System security is hardened with support functions such as Port Security, CPU rate limiting, Multi-Path uRPF and a long list 802.1x extension. Supports extended features such as QoS mechanisms, hardware-based generic routing encapsulation tunneling and ACLs, this way enabling customers to build high-performance campus networks, metropolitan (metro) aggregation, and various WAN edge network. Supervisor Engine 720 delivers scalable performance, intelligence and a wide range of features to meet the needs of the service most demanding providers and implementation of business requirements for the construction of the layer modular, robust, scalable and secure 2 or layer 3 solution by:
• Provide scalable forwarding Performance: up to 400 and 200 Mpps
• Multi Protocol Label Switching system: it allows the use of VPNs and Layer 2 tunneling while improving traffic planning
• QoS produce up to 40 Gbps per slot capacity switching, 720 Gbps aggregate bandwidth
• Provides support for new high-performance next-generation Gigabit and 10 Gigabit interface
• Investment protection, supporting all three generations of Catalyst 6500 series interfaces and service module configurations
• Supporting all 3 generations of Catalyst 6500 series interfaces, services, modules and WAN interfaces
• Provides for the start of the interface ports of growth and service module configurations of Supervisor Engine 720 MSFC3 PFC3 and offers several features.
The Supervisor Engine 720 PFC3 is equipped with a high performance ASIC complex supporting a range of features based on the hardware. The PFC3 supports routing and bridging, QoS, multicast packet replication, and security processes, such as ACL. The PFC3 has a complex high performance ASIC supporting a range of features based on the hardware. The PFC3 supports IPv4, IPv6 routing and bridging functionality, quality of service (QoS) and multicast forwarded and ACL-based policies.
The MSFC3 is an integral part of the Supervisor Engine 720, which provides high performance, multilayer switching and routing intelligence. Equipped with a high performance processor, the MSFC runs layer 2 protocols on one CPU and layer 3 protocols on the other processor. These include routing protocol support, layer 2 protocols, and security services.
Supervisor Engine 720 offers a scalability integrated fabric, user-based rate limiting to control up to 64 interest rates, the rate-limiting pro-flow or aggregate form, security enhancements, and MPLS IPv6 hardware and wire-rate. This section is also a Cisco 6500 Series Virtual Switching Supervisor 720 with 10GE uplinks perfection in performance. Suitable for the introduction of the distribution and core data center and Supervisor Engine 720 supports all Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series interface module classes (Classic, CEF256, and dCEF256 CEF720) offers hardware support for MPLS and IPv6. Supported both IOS and hybrid (IOS and CatOS RP SP) Director of the engine 720 offers significant improvements in performance (up to 400 MPP) with dCEF, the maximum bandwidth of 720 Gbps, DRAM up to 1GB, integrated switch fabric.
This is one of the most populat Cisco engines, and it really delivers what it should.
It is built well, but over time may have some minor problems, if you ever have these kind of problems with it, try baynework.com, and request a quote for reparation.
