Its tax time and the government is in need of their annual injection of money or it will go through withdrawal. Many of us hate to pay the government income taxes which were considered unconstitutional until the major world wars. Since it is a dirty job and few of us are aware of all the changes it is time to go out and find a good accountant. How do we do that? There are many methods one can use to find the best and most skillful tax accountants available. The first place many can look is on the internet search directories like Yahoo and Switchboard or through your local yellow pages. If you are going to use this method try and find reviews of these accountants which are offered with many of the online directories. The best method is to get referrals. Ask co-workers and friends who their accountant is and how much has that accountant saved them. Ask them what type of services they offer and are they available throughout the year. The reason why referrals are so beneficial is because you get a review from the people who have tried their services. Once you have obtained a list of accountants from friends or those with high ratings from the internet then give each of these accountants a call. CPA’s cost more but typically have a guaranteed level of knowledge and experience behind them. That makes them worth more because even if you pay an extra $50 they may be able to save you thousands. Ask each of the accountants the following questions: 1.) Experience: Do they have the experience that you need for your business or personal finances? 2.) Charges: What do they charge and what is covered in the fees? 3.) Personnel: Who will be doing your taxes? Will it be a junior or a CPA? 4.) Services: Do they offer year round service? Do they do e-file? Will the offer protection against audit? Will they give you a loan on your tax return? Once you have found out all of this information it becomes much easier to figure out who you would like to have service you. As a rule of thumb the best accountants seem to charge more but this isn’t always the case. Accountants can save you thousands of dollars if you utilize them correctly and select the best ones.
