Often, people appreciate cards more if the sender made them themselves. Arts and crafts are not only for little kids but could also be a hobby even for the busiest adults. There are a lot of unique ideas in the market you can choose from but there is one design that could stand out from the rest – using buttons for your greeting card. The materials that you will use are heavy and mid-weight card stocks, white buttons in different sizes (if possible, in graduating sizes), ribbon, puncher, glue and needle. Fold the mid-weight card stock then glue the heavier stock on top of it to create a layered look. Grab the glue and put the buttons on the heavier stock. You can either form a snowman or make snowflakes by scattering them throughout the card. If you decide to make a snowman, put the buttons in such a way that it would form a snowman – that means, the smallest on top and the biggest at the bottom. Also, you need to position the buttons so you can form the shape of a face when you fill the holes with thread. Pinch the card through each hole of the button. Use black thread with a knot at the end then pull it through the hole of the two upper buttons. Tie knots again to make the eye appear darker. Then use red thread for the mouth. Since you layered the card stocks on top of each other, the stitches will be hidden behind the heavier card stock. Pull the thread from the left buttonhole then to the right to create a horizontal line as the snowman’s mouth. Don’t forget to tie knots before you cut the thread. Lastly, in order to secure the two card stocks together, you would have to punch a hole and tie them together using a ribbon. Don’t forget to use sturdy envelopes, preferably padded ones to ship your cards. By using different colors of thread, you can actually create different forms with buttons. The most common design and probably the easiest to make is a snowman. To hide the stitches, you will have to use layers of card stock. This is also important to give the buttons a sturdy background. Just glue the buttons to form the snowman, use the thread to make eyes and mouth, then secure the card stocks together. You need not invest too much time and money for such a project – which is why DIY cards have become really popular. Visit Paper Mill Direct to know more about Paper.
