More than 1,000 species of marine life inhabit the world under the sea's surface - along with several shipwrecks - and with the water seeing temperatures of 18 to 26 degrees C, there is little danger of you getting cold. Sharm el Sheikh, El Gouma, Soma Bay and Marsa Alam are some of the top dive sites in the Red Sea area. Belize, Central America Belize is home to the second longest barrier reef in the world, as well as three significant offshore atolls - making the country's coastline the perfect spot for scuba diving holidays. Sharks and all kinds of tropical fish can be spotted under the water, as well as some magnificent caverns. It is possible to go diving all year round in Belize, although the period between April and June is perhaps best to avoid inclement weather. Banda Islands, Indonesia Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago, so it's perhaps little surprise that the country is hugely popular among divers. One of the best spots for scuba diving holidays is the Banda Islands, a small collection of scenic isles surrounded by crystal clear waters that hide some spectacular marine gardens. Just a few of the creatures you might be able to spot on a dive here include mobula rays, redtooth triggerfish, whales and spinner dolphins. San Carlos Beach, USA San Carlos Beach in Monterey Bay, California is a great destination for scuba diving holidays thanks to the fact that the Monterey area harbours more than 70 per cent of the Earth's invertebrate life. There are plenty of nearby beaches to visit if you want a bit of variety - it's worth taking a trip to Pebble Beach to undertake the famous 17-mile drive along the coast, which is flanked by impressive homes, golf courses and forest.
