If you're stuck choosing a destination for your Mallorca holiday, look no further than Puerto Pollenca to find fun for the whole family. The town has a stylish harbour setting and a backdrop of striking mountains, making it a great place to explore on a family holiday. Youngsters are sure to love seeing the many yachts and fishing boats moored in the marina while you might enjoy catching the rays on the sandy beaches and dining at some of the high-class fish restaurants, which are said to be among Mallorca's best. After setting up at your villa in Mallorca, you might want to waste no time having a look round the area. The marina is very much a focal point and there is plenty to do there. You'll find the area lined with shops and cafes, or you might prefer joining the kids in some watersport activities. A range of companies are based at the marina and provide tuition in the water whether you're looking to snorkel, wind-surf or scuba dive. Youngsters are sure to love the exciting experience of delving into the depths and seeing sea creatures first-hand under the watchful eye of experienced supervisors. But if they'd prefer to keep dry, why not treat them to a day sailing instead? You can select the British yacht the Tudor Dawn Charter to take out for a full day or enjoy a fun cruise for half a day, while the fully equipped Miami Sun can be taken around the local bays. If you're after a little luxury, you might opt for the 47-foot Sealine Motor Yacht, which is fitted with a rear bathing platform, sun deck and fly bridge. After a fun day at sea, you might enjoy relaxing on one of the area's small natural beaches while the children frolic in the water. There is also a larger extended artificial beach particularly suited to families because of its shallow, warm waters. And why not make the most of the beautiful setting by taking a walk through the mountains? The Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range surrounds the horseshoe-shaped resort and is a big attraction for tourists to the region. The stunning peaks can also be climbed if you're feeling energetic, with the highest pinnacle - Puig Major - reaching 1,445 metres into the sky. The mountain is the tallest in the Balearic Islands but if you're not a climbing fan you'll find plenty of walking routes within the 90 km range. Next, why not spend some time visiting the region's sights? Travel a short way to the old town part of Pollenca and explore the historical location, which dates back to Roman times. Some antique buildings still remain in the town, such as a former Jesuit convent that is now used as the town hall. And while you're there, don't forget to catch the market, which takes place at Placa Major square on Sunday mornings. If you miss the market don't despair - the same stalls can be found at the port's market every Wednesday. If you'd like to get more of a flavour of the region's history, you could pay a visit to Pollenca Municipal Museum established in an old Dominican convent that dates back to 1588 where you can admire paintings and be wowed by archaeological finds. Call in at the Monograph Museum of Pollenca too - a former hospital used during the 14th century housing displays showing life in the town under Roman occupation. Meanwhile, if your children are hoping to see some nature, you could always take them to Albufereta Nature Reserve. Here you'll find canals, reed beds and lakes across 150 hectares of land. If you look closely you might be lucky enough to catch sight of some of the 200 species of nesting and feeding birds in the reserve. After a busy day, return to the marina and sample some of the local fish dishes before getting a good night's sleep. You'll find the area is family-friendly and is not home to a wealth of nightclubs or rowdy bars. The following day, you might enjoy exploring the surrounding villages, such as Valldemosa. The hamlet, set up in the mountains, is home to a Carthusian monastery built in 1399 and once housed world-renowned composer Chopin. The pianist stayed in the building between 1838 and 1839 and the piano he played there still stands, alongside paintings by well-know artists including Francis Bacon, Miro, Picasso and Henry Moore. Whatever you choose to do, you'll be spoilt for choice for family fun on a holiday to Puerto Pollenca.
