Silica is one of the least known essential nutrients in the body. Many of already know that our bodies need a nutrient like iron. What many of us don't get to know is that a nutrient like silica actually plays more roles in the body, than iron. As long as one has a clear silica deficiency in the body, all indications are that the deficiency would manifest in a number of rather unpleasant ways. What is more worrying, however, is the realization that some of these manifestations of silica deficiency may not even be tied down to it - meaning that a person could be subjected to all manner of painful procedures in an attempt to treat conditions that could be easily treated by silica supplementation. The fact that silica deficiency can cause a number of health woes also means that, conversely, having adequate levels of silica in the body would bring with it a number of health benefits. It is those, then, that we now set out to explore. Now one of the major benefits associated with adequate levels of silica in the body is good skin health. As it turns out, silica is one of the elements that go into the making of collagen, the connective tissue that makes the bulk of our skin and which is responsible for things like skin elasticity. Without adequate levels of silica, you start noticing that skin loses its elasticity and becomes prone to sagging and the subsequent wrinkles; which can greatly interfere with your overall aesthetic appeal. The second major benefit associated with adequate levels of silica in the body is that of bone strength. Silica plays an important role in bone mineralization, meaning that without adequate levels of it, there is every chance that your could end up with weak bones, or outright deformed bones if the deficiency is major. Then we have well developed (and hence attractive) hair and nails, as another benefit that would arise from your having adequate levels of silica. As it turns out, silica is an important part in the make up of nails and hair; which conversely means that a deficiency of it would lead to your having less than perfectly developed hair and nails. The fourth major health benefit we could be looking at, as arising from an adequate level of silica is hormonal balance (which can have major implications on your overall health, quality of life and possibly, even your longevity). This is something that silica does by ensuring a proper balance between calcium and magnesium levels in the body. Now whenever there is an imbalance in these two minerals, we tend to have hormonal imbalances which can have major implications in your overall health and quality of life. Silica is not a new drug made by some big pharmaceutical company, it is made by mother earth. Silica is an essential element in the Earth and as we are beginning to realize that it is just as vital to our health, and should be taken like any other vitamin.
