The Big Apple is one of the most truly exciting places to visit on a holiday and sports fans may find that the month of September is the ideal time to go. From August 30th to September 12th, the city is overrun with tennis fever as it plays host to one of the world's most prestigious sporting events, the US Open. This event attracts the cream of the globe's best players, from Roger Federer to Andy Murray and the Williams sisters and is a must-visit on the itinerary of anyone heading to hostels in New York this summer. The city is famous for its parks and the tennis event is held in one of its biggest, Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. This park is the largest green space in the whole of Queens and as well as the tennis courts, is home to a number of museums and galleries, as well as a golf course and a zoo, so if you head here on a hostel break you could easily make a day of your visit. You can also hire a bike or take a relaxing stroll around this 1,255 acre park, which can be found between the districts of Flushing and Corona. To get to the US Open from central New York, you can take numerous subways or trains from the world famous Grand Central station, a building which is worth a look. Those seeking the most exciting games possible should head to the event towards the latter stages when the best players have been weeded out from the many who begin the tournament and the highest standard tennis can be seen. Quarter-final, semi-final and final games may be the best ones to try and watch. On September 9th, both the men's and women's quarter-finals will be taking place and could be well worth seeing. On September 10th and 11th, hostel visitors can check out the semi-finals and maybe catch a glimpse of world famous tennis superstars such as Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova. On September 12th, the crowds are set to be thrilled by some top class action in the men's final and if you fancy checking out this match on a hostel break to New York, booking both your accommodation and match tickets some time in advance may be advisable. This summer time, why not head to one of the many hostels in New York for a break and take in a few exciting matches at the world famous US Open? Hostels are a great way of keeping holiday costs low and are a perfect base for exploring this incredible city.
