Many people are concerned about the body fat piling up around their waistline and you only have to look around a public space for the hallmark large tummy and you will be likely to spot the two out of three adults wearing one. There is not another area of the body that there are so many myths about belly fat and how to remove it. The first misconception is that you can get rid of belly fat by working your abdominal muscles. This is based on some misguided belief that body fat is eliminated from a part of your body if you work the muscles underneath that fat. It is basically the same idea that you will lose fat on your legs if you pump your legs all day or on from your biceps if you do hundreds of biceps curls. The truth of the matter is that your body decides where to put its fat stores and when and where and the order it accesses or removes them. Your fat storage sites are usually on your trunk such as your tummy, hips and buttocks due to basic biomechanics. These are the most sensible places to store extra energy because it takes less energy to carry it around. It does not make sense to carry fat on your hands or feet as that would require extra energy and make movement difficult. But it is not only the fat directly under the skin that is a problem it is intra-abdominal fat that is the most dangerous and people can have high levels of this hidden fat that can be deposited around internal organs within the abdomen. Reducing intra-abdominal is important because this fat can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes and other health conditions. It can also raise the levels of insulin in the blood stream which is a known risk factor that promotes the growth of cancer cells. The most effective way to reduce this nasty fat is with a proper exercise that contains mostly strength training exercise. This is the only type of exercise that can alter body composition (muscle/fat ratio) and when overall percentage of body fat is reduced from an increase in metabolic rate, intra-abdominal fat is reduced as well. It is virtually impossible to lose body fat without proper exercise, and when strength training is included in the program you will end up burning fat for hours and even days after your exercise sessions. But exercising is not just about weight loss and is about improvement of overall health as well. Keep in mind that there is no quick fix solution to lose abdominal fat. No pills or supplements, no gimmicky, 'abs' rockers, rollers or belts. You cannot spot reduce your belly fat with any of these worthless contraptions. It does not work this way. The only solution to lose your abdominal fat and keep it off for good is to combine a natural unprocessed diet with a proper exercise program that works your muscular system.
