When it comes to Utah network cabling, there are three different types of network topologies to choose from. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. After reading this article, you should be able to choose for yourself which type of Utah network cabling is right for your unique circumstances. The first type of network topology is called Bus Topology. The major advantage in using Bus Topology is that it is so simple to implement, as all machines are "daisy chained" which makes wiring as easy as stringing coax cable from one computer to the next and so on. However, the disadvantage to using Bus Topology is that it is not very versatile when machines have to be moved. Each time you move around your computers, the network will have to be completely rewired. Bus Topology is not very fault tolerant. In some cases, if one part of the bus is disconnected, the whole segment of the network goes down. Bus Topology is also not very suitable for voice. The second type of Utah network cabling is called Ring Topology, which is fairly simple to wire. The major advantage to using Ring Topology is that it is quite fault tolerant, especially in a Token Ring network, if the main ring is disconnected anywhere. The ring uses a loop back system to maintain ring integrity. One disadvantage to this topology is that it is really only used with Token Ring networks with a Type 1 cable, meaning it will be very bulky and not very suitable for running voice. Also with this topology, every time you move your computers around, the whole system with have to be rewired. The third type of network topology is called Star Topology, which most buildings use these days alongside a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable. This is a big advantage, since this gives the network a centralized wiring point and makes connecting and disconnecting machines as simple as plugging and unplugging an RJ45 connector into a hub or switch. It can also be used for voice, data, video and any low voltage application. However, the Star Topology requires a centralized wiring point, which can be just a cabinet on the wall for small installations, or a dedicated air conditioned room with racks and cabinets in large office accommodation. On large installations the sheer bulk of cable coming back to the wiring closet can be difficult to control and keep tidy.
